Their Story

I went through 4 years of ROTC at Idaho with the attendant summer came in Tacoma and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the artillery upon graduation. I was, however, granted an educational delay. Hence, I went to graduate school rather than serving as a forward observer in Nam. Upon the conferral of my PhD in psychology, I received training for the medical service corps at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. I was then transferred to the medical service corps and assigned to the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. I served there for 8 years pursuing my interests in cardiac and blood pressure reaction to stress, caffeine and cognition but also the Army's interest in long term performance and sleep deprivation. I received a medal for marksmanship. As a college professor then, I didn't take the opportunity to continue in the reserves.
