Their Story

During my Junior year at Boise High School and after my birthday on April 22, my father and I went to the local Naval Station and I signed up to be a member of the Marine Corp Reserve Infantry Company.

I had two goals: 1. Stay away from the Draft and 2. Proud to be a Marine. I signed up for six months active duty and six years in the reserve. The six-month program was soon dropped. I had the option of going on active duty for two years or serving out my time in the reserves. Another goal, always, was to attend the University of Idaho. During that time I was sent to a 30 day boot camp and then a 30 day combat training course at the end of my duty, both in Spokane, WA. So, for all six years I fulfilled my duty in the reserve company and received an honorable discharge. Final rank was Private First Class.
